Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and a singer who performed for over 40 years. London was a torch-singing singer famous for her soft, soothing vocals and smooth contralto voice she recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her performance of "Cry Me a River" the song she first introduced in her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her part in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's acting career of 35 years began in the film industry in 1944. It featured parts as the female lead in various westerns. In the mid-50s, she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. She released her final album of studio recordings in 1969 but was able to continue to make a name for herself as the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), she was joined by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
